Workshop 1: Things on Strings - Sachen an Fäden

with Frank Soehnle | for 12 year olds and older
Duration: 180 minutes | in German | limited tickets
Saturday, 8 June 2024 | 11 a.m. | Theater Waidspeicher, Cabaret Hall

The string puppet has a special place within figure techniques. If you look closely, it is a pendulum that absorbs and transforms impulses. This creates a body language that conveys lightness and freedom. It is considered complicated and yet can be very simple. The workshop gives an introduction to the laws and handling of this type of figure. Without any prior knowledge, the abilities of people, materials and puppets are explored in various series of experiments. A door to the magic of a very special form of theatre.
Frank Soehnle studied puppet theatre at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. He works as director, puppet builder, performs around the world and teaches at various international theatre schools. He is particularly interested in the synergy of all arts and string puppets.

Colloquium with Workshop 2: Puppetry in the Novel – Novels in Puppetry

Universität Erfurt in cooperation with Theater Waidspeicher

Sunday, 9 June 2024 | 1:30 p.m.–3 p.m. | Workshop 2 | Theater Waidspeicher, Cabaret Hall

Puppetry and novels are close allies. Puppet theatre likes to adapt novels; conversely, there are many novels and stories, for example by Theodor Storm, Harry Mulisch and Philip Roth, in which puppetry plays a leading role and even comes to stand for the aesthetics of the text itself. This connection will be explored in a one-day colloquium with workshop organised by the Professorship of English Literature at the University of Erfurt in cooperation with the Theater Waidspeicher, and comprising of specialist talks and a practical part lead by puppeteers.

The Workshop 2 has limited tickets. To register, please contact Sonja Keßner at E-mail.
